Respond to this prompt: In the article and video there is discussion about how one aspect of everyday life is related to the topic of Chemistry. Describe at least three other things in your daily life are related to chemistry. Please do not list, but write complete and coherent sentences.

This article was very interesting, and showed how chemistry is involved in every day life. It showed my that chemistry is all around me in my life. For example when I go for a run there are many chemical reactions happening in my body in order to give me energy. Then when i get home and have a drink the ice floating in my glass is example number two. Also the dish soap that cleans the glass is example number three.

ReplyDeleteThe first major thing I can think of related to chemistry in my daily life is all of my body's systems and their reactions to each other. The second most important is how my body reacts to everything around me everyday that I eat, drink, or come in contact with. The third most important thing to me is how everything around me on this planet reacts to each other to make a perfect environment to live in every second of everyday. Overall chemistry has to do a ton with everything in life this article showed just a few of these important things.

I didn't really realize how much chemistry I was actually involved in and doing everyday activities. The food I eat gives me energy for sports practices and games. The ripening of the food that I eat is another one. Another would be me drinking chocolate milk to help build strong bones.
ReplyDeleteThis article was very helpful and showed me the chemistry was in more aspects of my life than I was aware of. The first example would be the clothes I'm wearing, the dye is chemistry. Another would be plastic, an organic chemistry, which I use to store food. Finally concrete, when it hardens that's chemistry, and I walk on it all day.
ReplyDeleteIn the video it talked about how cooking is actual chemistry! If you think about many how many times that you cook a day, your actually doing a lot of chemistry. Some other aspects in everyday life that use chemistry is our clothing. Also the water i have with floating ice cubes in it when i get home from school is chemistry. And lastly, the soap that i wash my hands with daily is chemistry.

The first thing that comes to mind when i think about our daily use of chemistry is hair products.. all those different molecules mixed together to make hair stay, or remove the grease and stuff.. The second thing that comes to mind is pool chemicals, like how the water can be green one day, you put shock in it and the next morning its clear (or closer to clear than it was)The third thing that comes to mind is the laundry soap we use on our clothes all the time and how its able to keep the colors of the clothes all bright(:

This article and video helped me to realize that I do chemistry everyday, and I had no idea. I cook a lot, and now after gaining from this knowledge I will be constantly thinking about all of the different reactions going on. There is chemistry happening while I make the meal, and after I have eaten it, when my body consumes all of the food. I can only imagine all of the chemistry going on in my everyday surroundings.
ReplyDelete-Kelly Harris
After reading this article and watching the video I have discovered how chemistry relates to everyday life. One example of chemisty is doing laundry the mixture of chemicals in the soap and water creates a recation that cleans clothes. Another example of chemisty is the dye in our clothes. A final example of chemistry is cleaning a pool by using diffrent chemicals you can get rid of bugs and algae to make your pool crystal clear. Chemistry surrounds us constantly in life whether it is cooking, cleaning, or wearing clothing.

The video and article helped me to understand that chemistry is a big part of cooking and that chemical reactions are happening when preparing the food we eat every day. The first example of chemistry that I could think of was when striking a match against a match box. The match head creates friction with the paper which ignites the head and then the wood. Another example of chemistry is when driving a car we use gasoline in the motor to propel the car. The next example of chemistry is when we make coffee we dissolve a powder into a liquid that makes a solution.

Whoa! Chemistry is in everything. From the time I wake up in the morning to the time I crawl back in at night, Chemistry is everywhere. Its in the dyes in my sheets and the pasty goo in my toothpaste. Also, its going on in my body when I devour my breakfast and run out the door for school. Another example of chemistry is all the chemical reactions taking place in the engine of my car as I drive along the freeway to school. Chemistry is everywhere!

I thought that the article and video were very cool. I did not know about the gas in apples making other fruits turn ripe and how an acid an base could change the color of cabbage.Very cool! Chemistry is really in everything.Chemistry takes place every time I make food. Chemistry is used to make all of the dyes in my clothes. Lastly chemistry is used when I ride on the school bus to school each day.
ReplyDelete-Jordan
Chemistry is a part of everything. It is the thing that allows us to create new objects used in everyday life. Without chemistry we would not have cars to drive, or shirts to wear. However, we would not have very little pollution because of not having motor vehicles. Chemistry, like everything in life, has its ups and its downs.

One thing that comes to my mind that is chemistry in our daily life is that when I bake cookies or a cake there is a chemical reaction going on to make them what they are. Another thing is that the dye for our clothes is made from chemistry. The last is example is all of the chemical reactions inside my body wouldnt be known if it wasnt for chemistry. Its all around us.
ReplyDelete-Marissa Pontius.
The article and the video helped me understand that chemistry can bring a variety of knowledge outside of the lab. With this new information I can now quickly ripen certain fruits faster so I can enjoy them and I can understand the chemical reactions in cooking. Like how you can change the color of red cabbage by cooking it and that you can change it back by increasing acidity.

The artical and video showed me that chemistry is all around us. It is in the dyes that we use, as well as many other aspects of every day life. It is in the muscles we use to move. It is even when you make bread. Chemestry makes the bread rise. Chemistry is all around us!

This article made me realize how chemistry is everywhere in my life. The first thing that I noticed is how Chemistry affects my overall body when I over exercise because it starts to cause acid build-up in my stomach. The second thing that I noticed is when I eat foods the chemical reactions in my body allows me to digest what I have eaten. The third thing that I noticed is how chemistry is in the environment around me and how it is playing a huge role in providing the nutrients that I need to survive.

While watching this video I learned just how vital chemistry is to our survival. I discovered that not only does chemistry occur in our bodies but in the food we eat. It even affects the ripeness o the fruits that we eat. Chemistry causes the reactions that make our cars move and keep us warm in the winter time. Without chemistry, we would not be able to complete the daily tasks we rely on to survive.
ReplyDelete-Dylan Scalzo
This article was very interesting. It showed me that chemistry is in even the most least expected things. Without chemistry i wouldnt have many foods we have today. Like chips for example. Someone had to mix different chemicals and nateral substances together to get the flavor of a chips. Also without chemistry we wouldnt have candles that can burn like explained in chapter 1.3. And lastly chemistry affects that when you eat food acid in your body breaks down your food and without it that would not be possible.

The article was an interesting one relating cooking to chemistry. it gave me insight on how chemistry is makes up everything. in my daily life some things that have reactions would be when i use nail polish remover to take the polish off of my nails, or using dye to color eggs around easter, and lastly freezing water in an ice tray and having it expand. Chemistry affects almost anything you do in daily life.
ReplyDeleteDelany Shinn
This article was really interesting and gave me a better understanding of chemistry. It really convinced me that chemistry is used in out everyday life. With this information I can ripen my food more quickly. I learned that chemistry even takes place in the food that we eat. The dye in our clothes is done by chemistry, our cars, and even in cooking. Chemistry is everywhere! Very awesome!

This article shined a new light onto the way that I personally perceive chemistry. One way that chemistry affects my life is during breakfast in the morning, as I fry an egg in a pan it turns from clear to white. Another example is when using bleach to clean our clothes. Finally, chemistry ultimately affects the way I play soccer during practice. If I have enough vitamins and minerals to provide energy, then practice usually goes smooth. It is incredible how everyday chemistry is easily overlooked.
ReplyDelete-Seth A.
This article makes a lot of sense. Every time I cook chemistry takes effect. For example, when I make eggs for breakfast the egg turns white. Another example is when you make bread, and the yeast causes it to rise when heated enough.
ReplyDelete-Matt B. Block 1
This article gave a different view from 'stereotypical' chemistry. I found it very interesting that not only does chemistry change the way things cook and taste, but also they way fruits and vegetables look as they cook or ripen. It helps make me realize how much chemistry affects our lives. Chemists have changed and improved every aspect of life today, even in the most unexpected ways.

This article and video has showed me that without chemistry even
ReplyDeleteeating would be difficult. The most simple and basic things that
humans use are forms of chemistry, like fire. If it werent for
chemistry we wouldnt be alive, the gas exchange between carbon dioxide and oxygen in the lungs is crucial to our survival. Sitting here at my desk there are several things that are made from plastic a petroleum based product that only exists because of chemistry. Chemistry creates, destroys and conserves resources and without it the human race would be extinct.

This video was helpful to understand how much chemistry really effects everyday life. Like when making a sunny side up egg it changes from a clear color to a while, and if you boil the egg the clear stuff turns hard and so does the liquid yolk. Also when you bake a cake the batter turns from a liquid to a yummy cake. Chemist really help us understand the reactions throughout everyday life.
ReplyDeleteThis article is a great example of how chemistry affects our every day life. there are many other situations in daily life that chemistry affects, for example when eating reactions in the body take place after eating to turn food into energy. Also, when plants convert sunlit into energy chemical reactions are taking place in the plants. Last, when preparing food many different chemical changes can take place in the food such as yeast in bread. It is very evident that chemistry affects a large amount of our daily lives.
ReplyDeleteBefore watching this video I never realized how much chemistry actually is involved in my everyday life. The most prevelant part of the day that I notice chemistry in, is bright and early in the morning. When you make breakfast in the morning many examples of chemistry are happening right infront of your face. Have you ever wondered why when you crack an egg into a frying pan it turns from clear to white? It's chemistry! Chemsitry is not often noticed everyday, even when it happens right infront of our faces.
ReplyDeleteThis article explained very well how often we face chemistry in our everyday lives, and it pointed out things I had never thought about before. I realized that when I use Nair to remove the hair from my legs, it's a chemical reaction that dissolves the hair. The same goes for the dye I use to color my hair black, it's chemistry that changes the color. When I use deodorant, it is a complex chemical formula that helps keep my skin dry and fresh. I encounter chemistry in nearly every aspect of my life!

I use chemistry everyday. I just used chemistry when I put wax on my car and made the rough spots of paint into smooth spots. Also if you make homemade jam you put fruit pectin into it to make it thicker. Lastly when I put hydrogen peroxide on my wounds it bubbles and cleans them. I use chemistry a lot.
ReplyDeletePaul Ramseth
In the article i just read and the short video I just watched really explained to me how much we use chemistry in our everyday lives. Such as when I use my mouth wash in the morning and night time, the liquid turns clear into a foaming white. Also, when I use crackly nail polish, the polish intantly crackles on the nail polish in seconds. And lastly, when i leave my fruit out on the table to stay over for night, the next day it is more ripe and sweeter. These are all examples of chemistry and how often we use it daily without noticing. I find it really strange but awesome at the same time that we use chemistry everyday!

Sounds good!
ReplyDeleteI never knew how much chemistry was used in every day life. In this article it mentions how certain vegetables and fruits spoil, or how acid is released once they are cooked. The simplest things can be considered chemistry. When i wake up and make some toast, or when i do a load of laundry these are both done by chemistry. Even when I drive home chemistry is used and with out it I would not be able to accomplish these tasks.
ReplyDelete-Heidi Hemenway
Chemisty affects the life I live in several ways. Firstly, if not for chemistry, I wouldn't be able to take the bus to school every day. Also, without chemistry, turning on the stove or oven to make something to eat would be impossible. Finally, chemistry allows my body to make the energy it needs to eat, drink, sleep, or anything else it needs to do to stay alive. Chemistry allows me to live the life I do, and without it, I wouldn't even have a life to live.
ReplyDelete-Anderson Vereyken
A few days ago I made cookies, and I used margarine instead of butter and the cookies turned out too soft becuase the chemical reaction in the water and margarine did not work. When I work out chemical reactions occur in my blood to help circulation flow. When I brush my teeth a chemical reaction takes place with the tooth paste and the water to make it foamy and get rid of bacteria.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most used items that uses chemistry are light bulbs. Light bulbs have a filament that heats up and glows once electricity is added. In order to stop the filament from burning an inert gas such as Argon (Ar) is used. Pools also use chemistry when you are balancing the pH of it. To do this Muriatic Acid (HCl) is used to raise the pH and Sodium Chloride (NaCl) is used to lower it. Batteries are also commonly used. A Nicad battery uses a nickel oxide electrode positive plate and a cadmium negative plate in order for it to hold electricity.

After watching the video, I learned a lot. I learned that chemistry is involved with everything I do everyday. For example, I got coffee on my way to school. There are many different substances used to make the yummy Carmel Buzz that I ordered. As soon as I grabbed that delicious drink I immediately put it to my lips and took a sip. All sorts of exciting chemical reactions were taking place as I did this. Later when I finished my drink, I threw it in the proper trash disposal, and days from now when it enters the landfill I can't even begin to list all the chemical reactions that will take place to return it back to the earth as decomposed material.

The video and article made me relize how much we really use chemistry in our every day lives. For example when i go running how each of my body systems sync with one another and produce different chemicals to keep my body going. The food i eat on a daily bases breaks down and produces different chemical reactions, to keep my energy going. and lastly when you brush your teeth the toothpaste you use has a reaction to kill the bacteria that causes bad breath.
ReplyDeleteUntil viewing this video I had no idea how much of my daily life involves chemistry. For instance, the chemical reaction when you use toothpaste to brush your teeth kills bacteria. Also, chemical reactions take place when i exercise to help circulate my blood. When i eat, the food produces chemical reactions to give me energy.
ReplyDeleteIn the video it mentioned that cooking is chemistry. If you think about how many times a day you eat and cook thats a lot of chemistry occurring. Two other major aspects we utilize everday in life that involves chemistry are the clothes we wear and the cars we drive. And lastly, the soap that i wash my hands with at work daily is chemistry.

Sorry so late- Just able to access page...
ReplyDeleteSo this video pretty much explains how chemistry is involved with everything we do. Whether it be cooking, cleaning or even eating it affects every aspect of our lives. For example, when I make grilled cheese the toasting of the bread and melting of the cheese are chemical reactions. Also when I brush my teeth it is just a bunch of chemical reactions going on between the toothpaste, toothbrush and my teeth.
