Introduction to Blogging About Chemistry

Welcome to the Virtually Chemistry blog! The goal of this blog is to make chemistry more relevant to your life!

Every week, you will be required to post comments in response to this blog in response to a reading and writing prompt that I post here. This assignment is worth 5% of your overall grade. If you have computer issues at home, there are computers available in the library and in the pod between the science rooms that you can use. Your prompt should be at least 4 sentences and should not include anything that would be against school rules including derogatory comments, profane language, etc. Just be cool in your response and remember that this is a graded assignment. Your grade will reflect your effort. So look in the right margin/sidebar, click on the current week's post, read it and any links posted there and respond. Happy blogging!

  2. A few days ago I made cookies, and I used margarine instead of butter and the cookies turned out too soft becuase the chemical reaction in the water and margarine did not work. When I work out chemical reactions occur in my blood to help circulation flow. When I brush my teeth a chemical reaction takes place with the tooth paste and the water to make it foamy and get rid of bacteria.

  4. This is really wrong for them to get students involved in things they shouldnt get involved in. The plastic bags are better in many ways like they said in the video. Im am totally against this.

  5. I have always been into recycling. Cans, bottles, paper, and plastic. When I go to the grocery store with my mom we make sure to bring our own bags, the big recycleable ones that can hold alot more groceries. I dissagree with the plastic bags being banned. Sometimes we dont have enough of our own bags and we use plastic. But we always keep them together and place them in the stores plastic bag recycling bin. I dont think plastic bags should be banned but should be aloud to be recycled just like anyother recyclable product, and should be advertised more in recycle ads, in and around stores.

  6. I agree with the banning of plastic bags. I believe it is easy to come up with an alternative way to carry your groceries. If plastic bags were to still be used, I believe a recycling system should be enacted that benefits the recyclers. If this problem persists, there is no need to continue the manufacturing of plastic bags.
