1. Fracking is the process of drilling water, along with other chemicals, into "hard shale rocks" to create fissures that release the natural gasses inside.
ReplyDelete2. The purpose of fracking is to create more opportunities to obtain natural gasses. It also allows drillers to get hard, or impossible to reach gasses trapped inside the deep, buried rocks.
3. Some people believe that fracking is a terrible and unsafe option due to the fact that is releases dangerous gasses into the air, such as Methane, and harmful chemicals into some area's drinking water. These chemicals may make consumers ill which is why fracking is a controversial subject.
4. The chemicals in the water that are mentioned are Benzene and Formaldehyde. Also Methane may be released into the air.
5. Fracking relates to our study of water greatly. Water is basically the foundation of fracking and also is very likely to be contaminated with various chemicals that can leak into drinking water. Also, we are studying how water is used throughout the world, and fracking is one way that it is used for a progressive cause.
6. I personally feel that fracking should be used in moderation. The contamination of the environment is too big a price to pay for a few more resources. Before resorting to fracking as a main tactic, we should search for safer ways to obtain natural gasses.

1. Fracking is the process of hydraulic fracturing or drilling of rocks. This process releases the natural gas that is inside the rocks.
ReplyDelete2. The purpose of Fracking is to obtain natural gases and oil. Fracking allows the Drillers/Miners to get down deep and get gases that are hard to reach.
3. Many people disagree with the method of Fracking. The reason being is that the chemicals used in the "Fracking Fluids" have now reached drinking water.
4. The make up of Fracking Fluid includes Benzene and Formaldehyde. Another gas that can be released into the air is Methane.
5. Fracking definately relates to our study of water. Given that water is the key to Fracking Fluid, though other chemicals are added to help the break down of the rocks. Recently, more people have been affected the chemicals in Fracking Fluid because it has entered into the drinking water.
6. I feel that Fracking is ok. However, I do feel that we should put more time into finding better and less harmful chemicals to be put into it. People getting sick and the contamination of our drinking water isn't acceptable. If the companies would like to Frack they should put money into keeping the safety and health of the people in the area as top priority.

Fracking is the process of drilling down 7000ft to shoot water contaminated by chemicals to break up rocks so it will release natural gas. the purpose of Fracking is to release natural gas from the ground for human consumption. Some people think that Fracking is not a good idea because we are pumping unstable water 7000 ft into the ground and it is laced with chemicals and those are getting in out drinking water. the liquid used to Frack is a combination of Benzene and Formaldehyde as well as H2O. As a process Fracking also releases methane. Fracking can contaminate all of our drinking water and the water shot down in to the ground can be unsafe and cause disasters such as earthquakes. I do not like the idea of Fracking for one reason only. We are destroying our only earth from the inside out when we Frack and there is no way around that idea. I think fracking should be stopped before we really do something that we regret.

Fracking is the process in which water, and other chemical, are hydraulically shot into the earth to break up rocks to get to the natural gas and oil. It may be safer than mining in tunnels where there can be cave-ins but is also bad because the water that is shot down contains chemicals that can seep into the ground water and make it toxic. The chemicals used are Benzene, Formaldehyde, and Methane. This relates to our study of water because when it is shot down it breaking up a solid object while it is in a liquid state. I believe Fracking is a good idea in moderation, because it is safer for the men so they don't have to risk their lives in the caves but is bad because it is damaging our ground water. It should be okay to frack as long as there is a limit or a restriction on where it can be done, and how often.

Formaldehyde and Benzene are the chemicals mentioned in the video and the article. Fracking relates to our study of water because it can change the molecular structure of water. I personally think that fracking is a good idea because we need to reduce our carbon footprint and natural gasses are a good alternative to carbon based sources but if fracking is causing more bad than good then it should probably be stopped.

Fracking is a process of drilling into the ground to release natural gasses out of the cracks caused by the pressure. The purpose of fracking is to release natural gasses to be used for energy. The reason people don't like fracking is because the chemicals used to make the water flow are poisonous and near public water sources. Benzene and formaldehyde are chemicals in the water while methane can be released into the air. Fracking relates to our study of water because water is being used to progress and help society. Fracking is the process of using water and chemicals to hydrolically pressurize rock underground to crack and allow natural gases and oils to be removed from underneath the Earth's surface. Fracking is now being used as a more natural process to get enough natural gas and oils in order to get the energy needed for citzens in their homes. Some don't agree with fracking because of the possible danger and environmental harm that it could bring. The chemicals Formaldehyde and Benzene are used for the process and small amounts of methane are released which can get into drinking water, water ways, and natural environmental systems which could kill organisms and cause illnesses. As more and more chemicals enter water ways, observations and studies will be made to make the water cleaner and to find a solution to make fracking a cleaner process of drilling. I believe that fracking is a good idea if the chemicals used and the resulting chemicals did not harm the environment. It is a good process that works and brings enough gases and oils that are needed for energy use and the water that is used in the process has a potential of being re-used if it is treated correctly.

Fracking is the process of drilling into the ground wth pressurized water and chemicals designed to break up the ground and realease natural gassea and oils. It is used to find new places to get oils and gasses and get them in harder-to-reach places. It is considered a bad idea by some because it realeases harmful chemicals into the air and into the water. Fracking uses Formaldehyde and Benzene. The chemicals can contaminate and change water's molecular structure and turn it ito something else. I think fracking is a good idea because it can help us get oils we couldn't get before a lot easier and we need all we can get, we use so much!

The technical term for fracking is hydraulic fracturing. Hydraulic fracturing is the pumping of water mixed with other toxic chemicals deep into the group into a hard layer of shale rock. The pressure built up causes the shale to crack and releases natural gases which are then used as an alternative energy source. One of the reasons fracking is not a good idea is that it releases a lot of harmful chemicals both into the air and into water supplies. This can and does harm both people and animals. Some of these harmful chemicals include formaldehyde and benzene in the water. And the gas released from the shale is methane and it is hard for them to contain it all and some does escape into the environment causing more damage there. And fracking relates to our study of water because it deals with the transfer of chemicals through water. Water sources are being contaminated even though the contamination is thousands of feet below the source. And I do not believe that fracking is a good idea at all. It has the short term effects of contaminating water sources and air pollution. It also has long term effects which are unknown. But with all of the contaminated water now trapped far beneath the earth’s surface something is bound to happen and it will most likely not have a favorable outcome.

Fracking (also known as hydraulic fracturing) is the process of pumping a high-pressure mixture of sand, water and chemicals thousands of feet into hard shale rocks to break them up and obtain the natural gas inside. Fracking allows drillers to have access to oil and natural gas sources far below the ground. Some people believe fracking is not a good idea since this process correlates to the contamination of water sources/leeching of harmful chemicals into local residents drinking water, including benzene and formaldehyde into the water and methane into the air. Fracking relates to our study of water by these poisonous chemicals can alter the structure of water and end up becoming hazardous to our health.
ReplyDeleteIf you can link fracking with water pollution, then this definitely is not the best way to extract fuel sources, and it is doing more harm than good. So I feel gas companies should moderately use this technique, while scientists should try and figure out a better, more environmentally sound way to receive natural gas. As this is a temporary solution, it will wreck havoc in the long run.

1. Fracking, also known as hydraulic fracturing, is the process of pumping water, sand, and chemicals deep into the ground at very high pressures in order to break up shale rocks and release the natural gases that are contained within them.
ReplyDelete2. The purpose of fracking is to harvest natural gases for energy and industrial uses.
3. The main issue with fracking is the contamination of nearby water supplies, as the chemicals that are used in the process can leak into water tables and end up in homes.
4. The most prominent chemicals found in the mixture that is used in fracking are Benzene and Formaldehyde. Methane, the gas that is released, also escapes into the atmoshpere.
5. Fracking relates to our recent study of water because it is about the leaking of chemicals into water and the problems that ensue from this.
6. I believe that fracking can be useful for extracting natural gas, as long as it is carefully executed and monitored. Before it should continue, however, a different mixture that is devoid of harmful chemicals must be substituted for the current one in use, because contaminated water should not be allowed to enter homes and drinking water.

When miners extract natural gas by fracking, they drill deep holes into shale, and inject a mixture of sand, chemicals and water in order to break the rock apart and release the natural gas. Fracking is now being used as a way of gas extraction in order to supply a cheaper, alternative fuel source to oil. Unfortunately, fracking is dangerous to workers and the surrounding environment as not all of the chemicals used can be removed. While hundreds of chemicals are used in fracking, the most common are methanol, isopropanol, crystalline silica, ethylene glycol monobutyl, ethylene glycol, hydrotreated light petroleum distillates 89 and sodium hydroxide. Fracking and water are closely related, not only because the process involves the use of water but also because one of the main concerns of fracking is it's effect on the water ways from ground water contamination. After fracking is completed, leftover toxic chemicals, such as methane enter the near by ground water reservoirs. This contaminated water is eventually made into drinking water and used by cities. If the right restrictions could be approved, and the methods of fracking improved drastically, it could become a viable source of energy. But until then, fracking should be postponed until it is a much safer process.

Fracking is a method of obtaining natural gas from underground that involves pumping water and chemicals into the ground. By doing people can harvest the gas and make money. People think fracking isn't a good idea because the chemicals that are mixed with the water (Formaldehyde and Benzene) are highly toxic and can contaminate wells of groundwater. I think it relates to our studies on water because water is the best solvent and the wells can become contaminated easily if exposed to the toxins. Personally I think fracking isn't a good thing. I love how it creates jobs in this tough economic time but it isn't worth the cost of even a possibility of contaminating the groundwater. That would be catastrophic if it happened in some areas. With solar energy becoming more and more efficient and cheap I think that in a few years most of the drilling and fracking that is done today will hopefully be obsolete. Until that day we should make sure fracking and drilling are heavily regulated and leave as small a footprint as possible. Well thats my 2 cents. -Patrick Bradshaw block 2

5. We are doing this over anything else because it subtly relates to out water study. I would like this one to be explained to me.
6. Fracking can relate to our study of water because of all the gases being injected into drinking water react to eachother, causing water to light on fire. My opinion on it is that if fracking can't be done without contaminating drinking water, it shouldn't be done at all. Theres no need to put citizens in that kind of danger.

The process of fracking is drilling into the ground then pumping water and other chemicals into the ground at high pressure to release natural gases. The purpose of fracking is to release energy in the form of natural gases. Some people think that fracking is not a good idea because it can release harmful chemicals into the water and air. Some of the chemicals involved in fracking are Benzene, methane and formaldehyde. Fracking relates to our study of water because shows how chemicals can effect the molecular structure of water. I feel that fracking could be used if it was more contained so that it doesn't affect the environment.

Fracking is the drilling into ground thousands of feet down and releasing water into the pipe to create fissures so as to release natural gasses. The purpose of fracking is to obtain natural gasses from underground for energy. Peoople think fracking is a bad idea because it releases toxic chemicals into the air and our water supply. Formaldehyde, Benzene, and Methane are the chemicals involved in fracking. This has to do with our study of water because it is an example of water being combined with one or more compounds and how it affects us. I think fracking should be used only when it is properly regulated by a group with the proper safety standards to prevent pollution in our air or water.

Fracking is a way to extract natural gasses from deep below the earth by pumping water and other chemicals into the earth via pipe. The purpose of this method is to collect natural gases for energy. The thing that makes fracking controversial is the chemicals that are left behind in the ground after extracting the natural gasses, which can contaminate nearby water sources. Benzene, Formaldehyde, and methane are all involved in the fracking process. Fracking relates to our current studies because it touches on the subject of contamination and the use of chemicals with water. As for my opinion, to keep it short, I believe it is just another way to get a source of energy that is of no benefit to the earth and use it to pollute our air, and at the same time pollute the ground beneath us. So therefore I do not like the idea of the whole shebang, but we are already screwed with all the other stuff being done in this world.
