That is amazing that neutrinos can travel faster than light. It is very interesting that they just kind of stumbled across this discovery, as they were testing something else. This discovery will have a huge impact on science and physics. This shows that science and technology is always changing and even when we think we understand something we can't be 100% sure as they found with this discovery. -Jordan B.
i never thought there would be anything that could travel faster than light. it is amazing to make such a discovery! So.. for the longest time we have talked and joked about the 'speed of light'. And then they just kind of stumble upon it?? Strange. Im not really sure what muon neutrinos and tau neutrinos are, thats a little to high tech for me but i think its really cool that we have this ability now and im really excited to see what we chose to do with it. It is amazing to think that we thought that the fastest speed was the speed of light. but now we have found neutinos that can travel faster. it is a little hard to wrap your head around.Kelly B
Neutrinos can supposedly travel at the speed of light or 20 parts per million. This OPERA experiment was created in 2006. This new discovery might change the way we think about physics. So it looks like Einstein was wrong, who would of thought. This is an amazing discovery. Now we have to figure out how we can make space ships that can go the speed of light. We'll see.
This is just another example of the fact that this generations discoveries disprove last generations breakthroughs. This process will continue as we continue to evolve and better our scientific capabilites. Next generations scientific advancements may disprove everything we take in as fact today. Who knows? What we measure at the speed of light as of now could just be the beginning.
However, this advancement is amazing. This could possibly open doors in the future as to our capabilites with the speed of transporation vehciles.
This truly comes as a complete suprise to me. Personally I would like to think that one of the greatest scientists of the past ages, Albert Einstein, was and will continue to be right with the things that he discovered and claimed in the world of science. But this article totally disproves the work that Einstien worked hard to prove. But I also believe that this type of occuarance, theories being disproved and other ones created, would happen all throughout my time. Nowadays technology and society moves so fast that if things aren't changing there is mostt likely wrong. This discovery is exciting and I am excited to see where the further experiments lead to.
Wow, i am suprised that we have found neutrinos going faster than the speed of light. I always believed that nothing could go faster than the speed of light, but these new readings may disprove that theory. It just goes to show that some things we may see as factual today may be disproved somewhere along the road, and that we never stop learning about the universe we live in. I am excited to see how these results impact future scientific theory.
This article surprised me in the fact that scientists found something that has the ability to travel faster than the speed of light. The neutrinos traveled 20 parts per million faster than the speed of light; however other experiments in different environmental and experimental factors may produce varied results. It would be interesting to see what would happen if you based your information on more than 15,000 neutrinos measured results. You could also move the detector closer or further from the origin. I am still amazed on the constant advancements in the scientific field. It will be surprising to see what else will come from future experiments of this nature.
This is so surprising knowing that something moves faster than the speed of light. All my life i have thought that the speed of light was the fastest speed ever and now scientists discover that nuetrons can move faster than light. This just goes to show that new discoveries are made every day. Hopefully scientists keep fidning new things to help improve our lives. -David Campbell Blk 1
It's cool that the OPERA result is actually "based on the observation of over 15000 neutrino events". Also that neutrinos travel 20 parts per million above the speed of light. And that the result has come as a complete surprise. It shows that with more advanced technology, science can be seen through new "eyes". It is truly amazing in what man today can do with their technology.
That is incredible that something could even travel faster than the speed of light! It is hard to believe that Einstein, perhaps the most brilliant scientist to ever live, could be wrong about his theory of light. This just goes to show you that new generations are capable of making some pretty magnificient discoveries that could possibly have the potential of being world-changing!
The premise of this article is that neutrinos have been measured traveling faster than light. The OPERA collaboration who discovered this believes their measurements to be correct. However, they are opening the subject for experimentation and thought to the scientific community, as they know errors may have occurred. Though I think there are many unexplored avenues of physics (Einstein's constant, and "dark energy," for example-- we really have no idea what's going on there), I have a hunch that Einstein is right, at least in this particular. However, that may just be narrow-mindedness, and one oughtn't to dismiss scientific evidence over hunches. It's always a possibility that we will have to devise an entirely new model of the universe. We may have to even if this turns out to be a false alarm. (Although, as I hinted at before, my personal belief is that it will only have to be improved.) -Johanna Kelley Block 2
On sept. 23, 2011 OPERA discovered that there could be something that could be fast than the speed of light. This something is a neutrino. A neutrino travels 20 parts per million of the velocity of the speed of light. It has been tested more than 15000 times and believe to be true. This shows that there is always something to learn in science. -Savanna Snyder
Everyone knows that light travels fast, but what we did not know is that there is something that travels even faster. These are called neutrinos, and they travel at a velocity 20 parts per million above the speed of light. This result was so unbelievable that it was tested more than 15000 times by scientists in the OPERA experiment. Looks like science and technology is still unpredictable. --Bruce Johns, Block 2--
It is always interesting to see new discoveries in science. i am impressed that OPERA has been able to find that neutrinos travel faster than the speed of light. This article is very interesting, its amazing that a such thing known as neutrinos can travel faster then light. In fact they can travel up to 20 parts per million. Technology is a magnificent thing, It continues to improve everyday and we are now shown things like OPERA. It exciting to know how much science has to do with life and be able to know more about everything in detail. Its crazy to think how far technology has came and how much farther it will go. -Heidi Hemenway
I thought the sound of light was fast. Turns out I am wrong, there is something that can actually travel faster! Those are called neutrinos found out by the OPERA. These neutrinos travel at the velocity of 20 parts per million above the speed of light, which is extremely fast. This just proves to use today that science can be proven wrong and our studies are just getting more and more advance as years go along. What scientist are proving today is so unbelievable! I wonder what they will discover next. -Brittany Thomas
It’s pretty fascinating to think that Einstein theory of light might have been incorrect. Especially because he is considered to be one of the most brilliant scientists to ever live. It’s hard to believe that we could actually accelerate anything to go faster than the speed of light. It's interesting to read that the speed of light, may indeed be incorrect. While Einstein may have been wrong, it seems as though it could be possible for others to have been so. What could be done with this new discovery? I'm not sure...maybe be able to measure things and speeds more accurately. Maybe be able to predict when certain things in space will pass by earth or arrive. -Madi Newman
